"see the beauty in the pure abstraction
of paintings by el cerrito artist harry gruenert"
martha ross diablo magazine
2010 press release
this exhibition also features californian
artist, harry gruenert's artwork; he is now into his sixth year
showing with sopa. as suggested in the exhibition title ‘front
lines’, this latest body of gruenert's distinctive work manifests
itself with a strong linear focus.intersecting planes of color and
shape indulge gruenert’s endless fascination with minimalism.Raw,
exposed areas in Gruenert's art follow alongside delineated fields,
shifting architectural geometry with a subtle, less stable, organic
environment. this multi-layered, yet smooth approach is created by
mixing and moving paint with various tools;offering Gruenert a
chance to blend pigments… contrasting brilliant violet with patches
of subdued green for example, keeping a close eye on light in
opposing bands of color. frank stella’s quote, “what you see is what
you get” resonates strongly with gruenert's sensibilities as, he
strives towards simplification. knowing exactly when to walk away,
when the painting is finished... for gruenert, the moment it's done,
he just knows.
" i recently purchased two pieces of work by harry gruenert for
my home in palm springs ca and i can
honestly say that i
believe that he is one of the most promising and up and coming
abstract artists
in california. the breadth and depth of his
work is amazing and the textual, tonal and very painterly
qualities he employs are quite something to observe.
the
multiple overlay of colors and very deliberate brush stroke clearly
identifies his work. he is clearly
influenced by rothko and
other abstractionists of the mid to late 20th century."

vision art joins 2007 san francisco sunset idea house (casa verde)
custom fine art covers television throughout home; enables multiuse
aesthetic combined with clean urbanlook
san francisco -
since 1998, the sunset magazine idea house program has combined the
magazine's most
exciting new designs with the smartest home
products available. joining that winning combination is
vision art, a company proud to contibute beauty and innovation to
the 2007 san francisco sunset
idea house.
the vision
art specified by interior designer includes both abstract
photography and painting:
in the apartment, abstract
photography was reproduced by vision art, sourced from original work
owned
by the sunset idea house organizers.
sourced
from vision art's own art collection the abstract painting used in
the main house is a contemporary
study in color by
nationally renowned san francisco artist harry gruenert.
"vision art eliminates the problem of wall mounted television
compromising focal points or creating multiple
points of
view, a nightmare for furniture choice and placement," says
dave froerer, vice president of vision art.
"delivering
art reproduction that's second to none, interior designers using
vision art are able to work side by
side with the works of
nationally acclaimed artist, like painter harry gruenert."
press release
"harry gruenert's paintings are both delicate and though
provoking. in this balance he has found the clearest
expression from one translucent plane to another. this recalls
rothko's search for a sense of status in
painting which
gruenert has accomplished"
downs
"harry's abstract work on panel conveys a vigorous
physicality of movement and space under
a surface worked to
a smooth sophistication"
merridith pelino
"harry gruenert's paintings echo crumbling plaster multiple
layers suggest years of seasoning yet this
refined approach
combined with subtle coloring and large paneling give harry's work a
more modern
minimalist appearance"
